Heavy Duty Hayracks
In 1990, we became so discouraged at losing our good quality hay to mold and mildew while using the standard round rings that you see at your local "co-op" stores, that I designed a heavy duty hay rack for my cattle and horses on my farm. Now in 2008, with the price of hay dramatically higher and still climbing, due to the cost of fuel and the labor involved in harvesting of the hay , it only makes sense to invest in a more efficient feeding system and eliminate all the waste. My units are extra heavy and will stop the moisture wicking process that will occur when the hay is sitting directly on the ground. We've re-designed the initial version, and through trial and error, I think I have come up with the perfect hay feeding system. As the photos show, these units are designed on either end that the bottom skid plates are turned up with pulling lugs located in the center for easy towing. This has been most helpful in the winter months to move the racks to a new and dry feeding area.

Since cows and horses are social animals and are particular who they eat next too, we found it works best to use one hayrack for every 6 to 8 animals. These units are built heavy enough so that you don't have to worry about a rambunctious bull destroying one of them. (over 400 lbs. each) In the photos below, my shop supervisor, Larry, is showing not only that these racks will hold up your heaviest bale of hay but it also shows that it is holding up the front of my John Deere tractor as well. These units are over engineered to insure years of reliability and efficient hay feeding.

Below are photos showing the ease that we move these units from one pasture to the next. We normally tow up to 5 empty racks at one time. We load hay onto these units with a front spear but can be loaded with a back spear as well, assuming that your tractor is big enough. Some of my racks are 15 years old and show little or no signs of wear from the elements.

As we all know mold and mildew free hay is essential for horses.
